MCO ACADEMY Henri DutilleuxTout un monde lointain Hector BerliozSymphonie Fantastique op. 14 Conductor Pablo Heras-Casado / Cello Andreas Brantelid / MCO Academy Project
This year, the MCO Academy NRW is celebrating an anniversary: It is the fifth time that ambitious music students, having successfully auditioned, join the ranks of the MCO in order to rehearse and perform full-scale orchestral works and gain valuable practical experience.
Moreover, the Academy marks a new record: a total of 43 students have qualified for the MCO Academy Concerts 2013 – more than ever before. Almost half of the Academy students stem from the founding partner of the Academy: the Orchesterzentrum|NRW in Dortmund. Further students come from the Catalan Youth Orchestra Association JONC in Barcelona, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, the Norwegian National Youth Orchestra and the Australian National Academy of Music. The MCO Academy NRW continues to integrate further partner institutions, as it aims to offer its students not only high-quality orchestral experience, but also – fitting for the character of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra – a platform for international exchange and networking.
The MCO Academy Concerts 2013 will be led by young Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado. After an intense week of rehearsals, the Academy can be heard on 22 February in the Konzerthaus Dortmund, on 23 February in the Philharmonie Essen and on 24 February in the Cologne Philharmonie. The programme includes Henri Dutilleux's Tout un monde lointain (cello: Andreas Brantelid) and the famous Symphonie Fantastique by Hector Berlioz.
Visit the MCO Academy blog between 18 and 24 February, and you'll find daily video clips, photos and updates from the Orchesterzentrum|NRW in Dortmund. Follow the Academy students from NRW, Barcelona, Manchester, Norway and Australia as they experience a week of rehearsals and concerts with the MCO!
