On our orchestra tours we often include concerts in smaller chamber music formations under the name Mahler Chamber Soloists. Flexible in size and repertoire, the MCO Soloists perform on the main stage but also have access to alternative contexts and venues, where innovative formats allow contact with new audiences. With all orchestral instruments on board, we experiment with a wide range of repertoire. Club Classical gives listeners a chance to enjoy classical music in a relaxed atmosphere with an intimate contact between performers and audience.
The programme for this concert was created by MCO violist Anna Puig Torné, who has studied in Barcelona and knows and loves the Jamboree Jazz Club. Anna´s idea for this programme was to take inspiration from the ambiance of the concert venue, the jazz club. So she chose pieces for classical instruments which have a link to jazz music in one way or another. All of the pieces include either double bass or piano, and one percussion instrument is even involved, forming the complete rhythm section of a jazz ensemble.
