The MCO's Music Outreach activities aim at opening up the realm of classical music to a larger public and to different audiences. School visits and open rehearsalsat the concert halls are a basic component of MCO Landings and take place in various countries.
Central to MCO Landings are larger education projects connected to a specific tour or programme. On the MCO Soloists Tour in India in January 2012 the musicians supported the music outreach initiative Songbound which makes music accessible for children in poor neighborhoods and builds up collaborations with schools, choirs and professional musicians from all over the world. As part of the Beethoven Journey with Leif Ove Andsnes the MCO has started the project "Feel the Music" which invites hearing-impaired children across Europe to explore the world of music.
The MCO is a partner for community projects and social initiatives with a focus on its residencies and selected tours and locations. As part of the orchestra's residency in Ferrara musicians of the MCO work with music therapists at Ospedale San Giorgio. The MCO currently develops activities in partnership with the Roland Berger Stiftung for students of the Roland Berger Scholarship program.
