NIEKE SCHOUTEN, OBOE Nieke Schouten joined the MCO for concerts in July 2011 in Baden-Baden. The concert version of Don Giovanni under the direction of young Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin and with a star cast of singers was performed in the course of this year's Summer Festival. Since 2010, the MCO Foundation has awarded scholarships to selected students from the Orchesterzentrum|NRW as part of its mission to support young talent. With these scholarships, the Foundation makes it possible for students to participate in specific MCO concert tours and thereby gain essential professional orchestral experience, and also provides financial support for the students' studies. Each scholarship recipient is matched with a mentor from his section for the duration of the project to ensure that he is fully integrated into the orchestra both personally and musically.
