Love Drama on HR2
You shouldn’t miss it: On Saturday, 6 Feburary 2010, the Hessiche Rundfunk (HR2) will be broadcasting a highlight of the MCO 2009/10 season, at 21:30. Under the baton of Principal Conductor Daniel Harding, the ensemble performed the 2nd act of Richard Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, together with a world-renowned cast of singers, including Waltraud Meier in the role of Isolde.
The concert, which took place in the Großer Saal of the Alte Oper Frankfurt on 1 November 2009, was part of a well-received tour which led the MCO from its Italian residence in Ferrara to its NRW residence in Dortmund to Frankfurt and finally to Paris.
“A grand, tumultuously acclaimed evening of Wagner” wrote the Westfälische Rundschau, the Recklinghäuser Zeitung described the evening as an “enthralling Wagnerian wonder”, and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung praised the MCO as “an ideal Wagner ensemble (…), precisely because the intimate—one could also say individualistic—structure of the group brings a certain amount of light into the darkness of the Wagnerian score; all the nuances of tone color become that much more present.”
