This year in January the young Colombian conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the Moldavian violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja meet up with the MCO, a combination that will present a strong contrast to the wintry temperatures outside.
Both artists astound audiences regularly with their innate musical temperament and very personal interpretations. It is no surprise that both are well matched to the MCO and that their concerts together are consistently celebrated by audiences throughout Europe.
Patricia Kopatchinskaja last collaborated with the MCO in April 2012 in Cologne and Novi Sad; Orozco-Estrada led the MCO this past December, also in Cologne as well as in Dortmund and Essen. The first tour undertaken by the MCO and Andrés Orozco-Estrada together took them to South America in 2010, including a stop in the conductor's home city of Medellin. In an extensive tour diary the musicians and Orozco-Estrada himself recorded their impressions of this extraordinary trip.
The current tour opens with a concert in Munich, where the MCO gives its debut at the Gasteig with piano duo twins Christina and Michelle Naughton from New York, and continues in Innsbruck and at the Mozartwoche in Salzburg with Patricia Kopatchinskaja. At the centre of both programmes in Austria is Mozart's Violin Concerto no.4 in G major. In Innsbruck the programme is completed by symphonies of Mozart and Beethoven, and in Salzburg Mozart is combined with two works by Igor Stravinsky.
