For the first time since New York in October, I am back playing with the MCO. I gave birth to my daughter in December and have been at home since. Now Maya is 7 month old and we are on tour for the first time with my husband and my father.
We are in Santiago de Compostela playing a wonderful program: Bartók Divertimento for strings, Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto and Dvoráks Slavonic Dances.
Our first rehearsal is Bartók. Daniel is conducting and he brings out all the bizarre cords and odd characters in this very special piece for strings.
Musically it feels like "coming home" and it is a pleasure playing with my colleagues again.
Next thing we started working on was Dvorak "the less known" Slavonic Dances. It has everything from fireworks to very nostalgic moments and we had a lot of fun in the fast movements were Daniel let the tempos go crazy towards the end.
Janine Jansen attended the third rehearsal. She is a young Dutch violinist with such charming and excellent musicality and a superb technique. The Tchaikovsky Concerto is like made for her. We worked very detailed on the phrasing and tried out different possibilities together with Janine.
After three days of intense work we played a great concert in Santiago. My brother came to listen because he lives in La Coruna at the moment, so it was very special for me to have all my nearest family sharing this nice moment with me.
