International Orchestra Congress featuring MCO // 03.05.2011
“Orchestra 2020” on 7 and 8 May in Dortmund
In the lectures and discussions of the 1st International Congress “Orchester 2020 – Innovative Concepts for Education and Practice”, representatives from leading international orchestras, experienced professional musicians, music managers and academics address the question of the changing career profile of the orchestral musician, and the response of educational institutions and structures to these changes.
The congress is presented by the Orchesterzentrum|NRW and the Mediation Institute for Music at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold in cooperation with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
With the MCO Academy NRW, the MCO and the Orchesterzentrum|NRW have created an innovative model for the training of young orchestral musicians as part of the MCO’s Residence in NRW. Andreas Richter, general manager of the MCO, will speak at Panel II, “Orchestra Landscape – The situation for orchestras now and in the future” about the concept of the MCO (7 May, 14:00). Attendance at the public general rehearsal of the third annual MCO Academy Concert under the direction of Pierre Boulez at the Konzerthaus Dortmund (7 May, 17:00) is part of the congress.
Around 150 students and instructors from the areas of instrumental music, music education and arts management, as well as representatives from renowned orchestras, will take part in the congress.
