Travel is as essential to the life of an MCO musician as air is to breathing. As a professional touring orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra is on the road about 200 days each year. But the dimensions of the current tour are unusual even by MCO standards, and this tour is something special for all involved: under the direction of Principal Conductor Daniel Harding, the orchestra is on tour for an entire month, from 18 May until 20 June, with music of Gustav Mahler and Johannes Brahms in Europe and Asia, playing a total of 16 concerts.
The tour begins in Essen and Dortmund (MCO Residence NRW) and continues to Leipzig, Hamburg and Milan before heading to Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Kanazawa, Osaka and Hyogo. On 13 June, chamber music ensembles from the orchestra play a benefit concert in Kobe in support of victims of the earthquake and tsunami disaster from 11 March.
The proceeds of the concert will be donated entirely to the Japanese Red Cross. If you would like to participate by making a contribution of your own, follow this link: www.jrc.or.jp/english/relief/l4/Vcms4_00002070.html
