Aglaja Thiesen // Project Manager

Aglaja Thiesen joined the MCO in January 2007. Alongside her duties as project manager, she is responsible for assigning musicians to projects.

After finishing high school in her home city of Hamburg, the cellist studied German literature, musicology, publicity and communications in Heidelberg. She continued her studies at the Free University Berlin and completed her Magister in 2005. While studying, she was a research assistant at the Universität Heidelberg and organized the Collegium Musicum there. She also worked at the Junge Sinfonie Berlin and for vioworld.com, an online classical store for musicians and the interested public.

Ms. Thiesen moved to Ludwigshafen after completing her degree, where she did a traineeship in orchestra management at the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie, a travelling orchestra like the MCO. Working in the orchestra office, in logistics, and for the general manager broadened her experiences in working together with musicians, conductors, organisers — and travel agencies, which shouldn’t be underestimated! Now happily resettled in Berlin, she enjoys the organisational and artistic freedom of the MCO, especially in comparison to publicly funded orchestras, and is thrilled to be working with world-class artists so early in her career. When she is not on tour with the MCO, she enjoys travelling, sports, and — naturally — music.
