Andrea Kerner has been working for the MCO since January 2005 and is in charge of the press department, where she develops communication concepts and strategies, coordinates press activities and liaises with MCO Friends.
Her path to orchestra management led her through many different areas. During her studies of German Language and Literature and Dramatics in Munich she did internships at various theatres, where she managed theater productions and learned to love opera. She supported herself during this time working in the personnel administration department and in public relations at a Munich high tech company. After successfully completing her Magister, she worked initially as assistant director, later as dramatic advisor in theatres in Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia. After several years there, she was drawn to Berlin, where she worked as a freelance ditor for several theatre publishing houses. At the MCO, she found the best of both worlds: a fixed position within a flexible organization; an office in Berlin and travels around the world.
Ms. Kerner’s professional life matches her personal interests: love of music, affinity for visual arts and language, as well as a close connection to theatre—for the MCO is well known for its opera projects. Because of the long hours spent in transit on tour, she can also enjoy her passion for books.
What connects her to the orchestra? “Movement. I don’t like stagnancy, and the MCO embodies agility in every form: musically, structurally and mentally.”
