Swedish baritone Peter Mattei has established himself as one of the most sought after singers of his generation. He has worked with conductors like Sir Georg Solti, Claudio Abbado, Sir Colin Davis, Daniel Barenboim, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Riccardo Chailly, Antonio Pappano, Herbert Blomstedt, Jeffrey Tate and Daniel Harding. The last seasons have included Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Metropolitan Opera, Billy Budd at Oper Frankfurt, Eugene Onegin at the Salzburg Festival and Guglielmo in Così fan tutte at the Stockholm Royal Opera. During the 2008/2009 season he has sung Posa in Don Carlo in Oslo and returned to the Met for Don Giovanni. He has also started his own festival in his native Luleå in northern Sweden with concerts and opera performances of highest international level. The 2009/2010 season includes Shishkov in From the House of the Dead at the Metropolitan Opera and at La Scala, Don Giovanni at La Scala and the revival of Billy Budd in Frankfurt.
Peter Mattie won international acclaim for his interpretation of the title role in Don Giovanni in Aix-en-Provence, directed by Peter Brook. Since then he has appeared at The Metropolitan Opera, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, Teatro alla Scala, Opéra National de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper, the San Francisco Opera, The Glyndebourne Festival, La Monnaie, Staatsoper Berlin and elsewhere, in roles like the Count in Le Nozze di Figaro, the Figaros of Le Nozze di Figaro and Il barbiere di Siviglia, Marcello in La Bohème and Wolfram in Tannhäuser. His appearances at the Stockholm Royal Opera have included Posa in Don Carlo, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Pentheus in Daniel Börtz\' The Bacchae (directed by Ingmar Bergman), Papageno in Die Zauberflöte and Lionel in Tchaikowsky\'s Jeanne d\'Arc.
On the concert platform Peter Mattei has appeared in Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Sibelius’ Kullervo, Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Des Knaben Wunderhorn, Saint Matthew Passion, St John Passion, Messiah, Zemlinsky’s Lyrische Symphonie and others. He sang Chorèbe at concert performances of Berlioz’ Les Troyens with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Colin Davis - released on CD by LSO Live and winner of two Grammy Awards. His discography includes Mahler’s 8:th Symphony with Concertgebouw Orchestra and Riccardo Chailly (Decca) and Don Giovanni with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Daniel Harding (Virgin Classics). His Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Met reached up to one million people through the Metropolitan Opera HD broadcasts to movie theatres worldwide.
Peter Mattei studied at the Royal Academy of Music and at the University College of Opera in Stockholm. He made his debut in 1990 as Nardo in Mozart\'s La Finta Giardiniera at the Drottningholm Court Theatre.
