Stanislav Shvets was born in Ekaterinburg, in Russia, and studied at the Musorgsky Ural State Conservatoire under Professor O. Tchmyr. Since then he has been furthering his studies at the Moscow State Conservatoire under Professor P. Gluboky and Tchatchava. He also returned to the Ludwigsburg Festival to sing the Dettingen Te Deum by GF Handel conducted by Prof. Gönnewein.

Mr. Shvets has been awarded numerous prizes and awards including a scholarship from the Russian "New Names" programme, 1st prize and a special prize at the Belvedere Competition in 1994 and a special prize at the Barcelona Viñas Competition in the same year.

Mr Shvets made his operatic debut in 1997 in Dublin for Opera Ireland (DGOS) as Banquo in Macbeth. In the same season he sang the role of Daland in Der Fliegende Holländer at the Opéra de Metz and also at the Kirov Opera under the baton of Valery Gergiev, a conductor with whom he sings regularly. In the ‘98/’99 season he made his debut at the Frankfurt Opera as Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and then returned for Leporello in a new production of Don Giovanni. He also made his debut at the Salzburg Festival as the Monk in Don Carlo, at the National Opera of Warsaw as Leporello and continued his collaboration with the Kirov Opera where he performed in their new production of La Sonnambula.

His more recent engagements have included Ramfis in Aida at the Utah Opera, War and Peace at the Bastille, Tosca and Rigoletto at the Liceu and Canadian Opera and Daland in Der Fliegende Holländer at the Teatro Municipal di Santiago, Chile. He also sang Masetto in Don Giovanni at the San Francisco Opera, Paolo Orsini in Wagner’s Rienzi at the Grand Teatre del Liceu, Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Frankfurt Opera and at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Banquo in Macbeth at the National Concert Hall in Dublin and Der Fliegende Holländer at Opera Ireland.

Concert appearances have included Berlioz's Benvenuto Cellini (the role of the Pope) with the Rotterdam Philharmonic conducted by Valery Gergiev, Shostakovich 14 at the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and also in Strasbourg and Zurich with the Sinfonietta 01, and also Beethoven 9 with the Orchestra Santiago del Chile.

Most recently he has sung Pistola in Falstaff, Monterone in Rigoletto and Angelotti in Tosca at the San Francisco Opera, Lady Macbeth of Msensk at the Liceu in Barcelona, Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Icelandic Opera and Banquo in Macbeth at the Glyndebourne Festival. Further performances included Madama Butterfly at the Opera National de Paris Bastille and the Liceu, Il Re in Aida at the Bilbao Opera, Don Giovanni (Commendatore) and War and Peace at the Canadian Opera Company, Aroldo (Briano) in Bilbao and Salome (1st Nazarene) at the Liceu Barcelona.

Future engagements include Banquo in Macbeth at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago Chile, for which he was re-invited after his success with them as Ramfis in Aida, continuing his ongoing collaboration with that theatre.
