Bernarda Fink, daughter of Slovenian parents, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and received her vocal and musical education at the „Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón” where she used to perform frequently.
Acclaimed for her musical versatality, Bernarda Fink’s repertoire ranges from ancient music up to music of the 20th century. She frequently appears with such well known orchestras as the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio, London Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Staatskapelle Dresden, the Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra as well as with the best known Baroque Orchestras under such famous conductors as Herbert Blomstedt, Semyon Bychkov, Sir Colin Davis, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Valery Gergiev, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, René Jacobs, Mariss Jansons, Riccardo Muti, Sir Roger Norrington, Trevor Pinnock, Sir Simon Rattle, Jukka Pekka Saraste, Franz Welser-Möst among others.
Bernarda Fink has appeared to wide critical acclaim in Argentina and at the main opera houses of Europe. Most recently she performed the roles of Cecilio/LUCIO SILLA led by Nikolaus Harnoncourt at the Theater an der Wien, Idamante/IDOMENEO in a new production of Luc Bondy and Jesus Lopez Cobos at the Teatro Real in Madrid and Irene/THEODORA under Ivor Bolton at the Salzburg Festival. She further sang Sesto/LA CLEMENZA DI TITO and Idamante in concert versions under the baton of René Jacobs which both were recorded and highly awarded.
Bernarda Fink regularly appears in recital at the Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Wigmore Hall in London. She could further be heard at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, Carnegie Hall in New York and many others. In the 2009/10 season she appeares in recitals at the Schubertiade, the Edinburgh Festival, in Santago de Compostela, Aarhus, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Paris, at the Alice Tully Hall in New York and in Philadelphia. With Genia Kühmeier she can be heard in a duo-recital at the Wigmore Hall in London, in Madrid and Brussels and together with Sylvia Schwartz, Michael Schade and Thomas Quasthoff she will perform Brahms LIEBESLIEDER-WALTZ in Baden-Baden.
Among her highlights of the 2009/2010 season are DIDO & AENEAS with Nikolaus Harnoncourt in Vienna, Mendelssohn’s ELIJAH in Hamburg, Mahlers II. and III. Symphony with the Concertgebouw Orkest and Mariss Jansons, Perolesi’s STABAT MATER with the Berliner Barock Soloists, concerts with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Daniel Harding, Strauss ROSENKAVALIER final terzett with the Staatskapelle Dresden and Fabio Luisi and Mahlers KINDERTOTENLIEDER in Brussels.
Bernarda Fink has made numerous highly acclaimed recordings. Her discography embracesalmost 50 releases including Monteverdi, Handel, Bach, Rameau, Hasse, Haydn, Schubert, Rossini as well as Bruckner and Schumann. Many of them have been awarded coveted prizes such as the Diapason d’Or or the Grammy, which include Händel’s GIULIO CESARE, Caldara’s MADDALENA AI PIEDI DI CRISTO, Bach’s ST. MATTHEW PASSION under Nikolaus Harnoncourt (TELDEC), Gluck’s ORFEO and Scarlatti’s GRISELDA with René Jacobs (HARMONIA MUNDI), Mozart’s REQUIEM and Verdi’s REQUIEM under the baton of Nikolaus Harnoncourt (SONY BMG), Berlioz’ LES NUITS D’ÉTÉ and Ravel’s SHÉHÉRAZADE as well as a range of solo recordings among others.
Bernarda Fink enjoys a close collaboration with Harmonia Mundi, of which the most recent recordings include Lieder by Schubert with accompanist Gerold Huber and Bach Cantatas with the Freiburger Barockorchester. A solo recording with Lieder by Schumann will be published soon.
In February 2006 Bernarda Fink was awarded the Austrian Honorary Medal for Art and Science by the Austrian chancelor.
