Falk Struckmann
Falk Struckmann // Soloist

Falk Struckmann is one of the most prominent singers of our time. Born in Heilbronn, the artist’s path led him from Kiel to Basel and ultimately to the stages of the most significant opera houses and festivals.

He made his
Bayreuth debut in 1993 as Kurwenal in Heiner Müller’s production of Tristan und Isolde, conducted by Daniel Barenboim. In the years that followed, the Staatsoper Berlin, which since 1992 has been under the direction of Daniel Barenboim, has been the centre of his artistic endeavours. There, he has sung in the new productions of Flying Dutchman, Lohengrin, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Der Ring des Nibelungen, Parsifal, Fidelio and Elektra. In addition, he has appeared in Salome and Wozzeck.

During the 1990s, Struckmann debuted at the Scala in Milan (Siegfried under Riccardo Muti), at the Met in New York (Wozzeck under James Levine) and performed in numerous premieres, especially at the Vienna Staatsoper, including Flying Dutchman, Lohengrin, Frau ohne Schatten and Othello. He has also sung there in repeat performances of Tristan und Isolde, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Der Ring des Nibelungen, Parsifal, Fidelio, Wozzeck, Tosca, Carmen and Elektra.

Mr. Struckmann was named a Chamber Singer (“Kammersänger”) of the Vienna Staatsoper and of the Berlin Staatsoper. After his debut at the Bayreuth Festspielen, he performed there in the Ring cycle under James Levine and, in 2006, under Christian Thielemann; he also sang in Parsifal. At the Salzburg Festival, he sung in Tristan und Isolde and in Bluebeard’s Castle. His Covent Garden debut was in Parsifal, his Paris Opera was Flying Dutchman, and at the Liceu in Barcelona, he sang in Tristan und Isolde and the Ring under the baton of Bertrand de Billy.

In the last few years, Mr. Struckmann has appeared increasingly at the Hamburg Staatsoper, where he sang in Mathis der Maler at the gala inauguration of Simone Young’s tenure as Artistic Director; following that, he sang the Ring cycle. Most recently at the Munich Staatsoper, he sang in the new production of Pfitzner’s Palestrina (also under Simone Young), a role which he shortly thereafter sang in Harry Kupfer’s production under the baton of Kirill Petrenko at the Frankfurt Opera.

Mr. Struckmann works with almost all renowned conductors and directors of the present era, and is also a welcome guest at many of the most famous concert stages of the world, most recently at Carnegie Hall with Pierre Boulez.

Nearly all of his roles are available on CD and DVD.
