Late Night at the Philharmonie Essen
After the MCO's performance of Brahms' First and Second Symphonies under the direction of Daniel Harding, a Late Night Concert offers audiences in Essen a special encore: with the Sextet no. 2 for strings, an ensemble of soloists from the MCO offers a glimpse into Brahms' chamber music repertoire. Guests who attend the performance of the two symphonies will be invited for a drink in the Philharmonie's foyer between the end of the concert and the chamber music performance. Interested visitors can also attend only the Late Night Concert (start time: 22:20). Entry is free.
This performance of Brahms' Symphonies 1 and 2 marks the beginning of a Brahms cycle that will be completed on 21 May 2011. On both evenings, Daniel Harding and the MCO give an introduction to the concert at 19:30 as part of the series "Die Kunst des Hörens" (The Art of Listening), and an ensemble of soloists gives a Late Night chamber music performance after the concert in a more casual atmosphere.
