This project has been very important for me and I was really looking forward to it because I didn't play with the MCO for many months; I was expecting my little daughter Miranda. Now she is two and a half months old and she came to Ferrara with me and my mother.

Being in Ferrara is always like being at home, we know the people at the hotels, in the theater, bars and restaurants, it is a very comfortable feeling.

The weather was not the best, snowy for two days, but everybody arrived with not so many problems; we started rehearsing in the afternoon with Mahler’s First Symphony and then in the evening with Salonen’s violin concerto.

It was the first time that this concerto was played in Italy and I was very curious about the response of the audience; it is a mix of minimalism and rock, the violin sings like an electric guitar!

The two days of rehearsals went by very fast, we had the general rehearsal in the morning with a little audience and then the concert; very nice in my opinion, the violinist Leila Josefowicz was great and the orchestra reacted very well under the conducting of Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Now I am looking forward the next project in April, in Ferrara again!
